A heat wave with temperatures averaging between 35 to 38 degrees Celsius has hit China's central and eastern areas. To get some relief from the hot weather, many kinds of measures have been taken to beat the summer heat.
On Sunday the temperature in southeast China's Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces exceeded 39 degrees. Drinking cold drinks and eating watermelons have become popular ways to cool off. And in most cities, bookstores and shopping malls with air conditioning are also the first choice for people to escape the heat.
In southern China's Hunan, and Jiangxi provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and eastern China's Shangdong Province, parks and scenic spots have become popular summer retreats.
On Sunday, the national capital and other cities experienced some rainfall. However, according to meteorological experts, this rainfall will not relieve the heat and the damp, hot weather is expected to continue for the next few days.
