Teaching at No 1 Foreign Language Experimental School. Week 4th April, 2003
The students are full of energy and enjoy class activities involving competitions with other class members, usually in teams.
This provides the opportunity for a vibrant (and noisy) learning environment with some good learning outcomes. This week I introduced a lesson on parts of the body, and completed it with an activity with the students standing, identifying elbow, chin, shin, palm etc with the slowest students having to sit down. The last few students standing were brought to the front of the class and their (already seated) classmates decided who was the slowest as the activity proceeded. This at the end left a winner. A good activity enjoyed by the whole class and involving them all.
Another activity during the week involved the use of a dice game and students creating meaningful English sentences about a variety of topics.
A visit to a primary school at the end of the week was an enjoyable experience with a large number of very excited and enthusiastic younger English learners.
